I came home to run my mother’s café. I did not come home to fall back in love with Luke Bennett.

Three years ago I left Autumn Ridge with a broken heart, a one-way ticket out, and a promise to myself that I would never, ever set foot in this town again.

And then my mother got sick.

Now I’m running her café, sleeping in my childhood bed, and trying very hard to forget that the boy who broke my heart in high school grew up to be the town’s hottest firefighter — the one who saves cats from trees on weekdays and bakes prize-winning sourdough on weekends.

Luke wants to talk. Luke wants to apologize. Luke wants to explain.

I want to throw a pumpkin at his head. Then maybe — possibly — let him kiss me. Just once. Just to see.
